Job Description

The Homework Help Facilitator provides after school enrichment instruction to students independent of a regular classroom teacher. Additionally, this role is responsible for capturing data for grant reporting, as well as serving as the point of contact for campus safety and security support. This position has a focus on grades 6-8 (though other grades are permitted to access this service).

This temporary part-time position is available immediately through May 2025. The Homework Help Facilitator reports to the Beyond School Club Coordinator and has a set schedule of 2:00-5:00pm on Mondays through Thursdays, and 12:00-3:00pm on Fridays. This position is in-person at the Arts and Sciences Center (HAASPCS campus) and can be expected to work both inside and outside as needed.

Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)

  • Instructional Enrichment
    • Respond and adapt to student needs in order to help students complete work assignments and practice academic skills assigned in school hours
    • Provide a flexible and  motivating learning space, using creative instructional models to help students learn and practice skills
    • Communicate with primary teachers in order to support student success in classroom curriculum
    • Subjects may include grades 3-6 core curriculum, supporting general learner outcome (GLOs) as defined by HIDOE
    • Activities may include team building, peer-to-peer mentoring multimedia and computer activities with an emphasis on character-building and good decision-making
  • Data Collection & Reporting
    • Record data as required by grants ( includes attendance, participation, demographics,  or other areas)
    • Compile data for further reporting and analysis as required by grant
    • Attend and participate in meetings as needed, with other team members
  • Campus Safety & Security
    • Act as point of contact on campus to support security staff and oversee end-of-day closing procedures
    • Maintain awareness of and adherence to school and safety policies and procedures. 
    • Report potential health and safety problems to BSC Coordinator as they arise.  Alert ASC Leadership, BSC Coordinator, and HAASPCS Assistant School Director immediately upon hearing or observing a safety or public relations problem
    • Enforce campus safety policies among Beyond School Club students
    • Complete virtual HCAMP certification (Hawaii Concussion Awareness Protocol)
    • Supervise student pick-up
    • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained in accordance with contract, State, and Federal law including FERPA and HIPAA

Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Driver’s license. 
  • Knowledge of Hawaii State Standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with contract, State, and Federal law, including FERPA and HIPAA.
  • Willing to obtain CPR certification (paid by employer) upon hire.
  • Teaching and classroom management experience.
  • Knowledge of common academic, social, behavioral, and developmental milestones of students.
  • Comfortable working with technology and various software.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret reports and documents.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and execute activities and field trips efficiently, ensuring that all logistical details are covered.
  • Able to record and analyze data.
  • Observe school and state policies.
  • Adhere to state and federal laws.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, sit, read, talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.   The employee will manipulate the mouse and keyboard.  The employee must be able to move or carry job-related objects or materials and capable of reaching to obtain items such as books, printouts, and files.
