Emerging Contaminants (EC) Managing Chemist

$5,918-$9,200 per month,salarycommensuratew/trainingandexperience

 

Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment.The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the development and operation of the new and dynamic Emerging Contaminants Unit (ECU), by performing statewide drinking water and other environmental analysis, monitoring and reporting activities, and prioritizing and coordinating work with other laboratory and environmental health programs.

  

MinimumQualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:  Graduationfromanaccreditedcollegeoruniversitywithabachelor’sdegreeinchemistry or a closely related science which included at least 30 semester credit hours in chemistry courses, including organic, inorganic, analytical and/or physical chemistry.

 

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Three (3) years of professional work experience which demonstrated the ability to apply the scientific laws and principles of chemistry to predict results; or to interpret and evaluatetheresultsofprofessionalresearchoranalysesbyotherchemists;ortoassesstheneedforand validity of proposed changes and improvements in laboratory procedures and methods.At least one (1) year of the required experience must have been comparable to the fully competent worker, or the Chemist III level in State government.Specialized laboratory experience in the detection, isolation, and identification of chemical contaminants is desirable.

 

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE:  Applicants must demonstrate possession of supervisory aptitude. Supervisory Aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities oraspectsofsupervision,e.g.,byservingasagroup orteamleader;orinsimilarworkin which opportunitiesfor demonstrating supervisory capabilitiesexist;by completionoftraining coursesin supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
