Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC)
Community Health Worker

$3,047 - $4,509 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment. The position functions as a knowledgeable liaison between the community and the Kauai District Health Office and service providers. It focuses primarily on populations historically underserved and experiencing health disparities. The goal of the position is to establish and maintain trusting relationships with the priority populations in a culturally humble manner. The position facilitates access to health and social services while improving the quality and cultural humility of service delivery that embraces diversity. The position supports capacity building at the individual and community levels by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, engagement, health education, social support, and advocacy.

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:  High school graduation or equivalent. College-level coursework in social sciences, public health, communications, or related fields is preferred but not required.

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  One (1) year or more of related work or volunteer experience, involving one or more of the following: health services, community service, language/accessibility service, community organizing, community advocacy, grass-roots mobilization or outreach, and/or collecting personal information.

 

LICENSE:  Valid State of Hawaii Type Ill driver's license, preferred.

This position is exempt from civil service. Employment in such positions is considered to be “at will.” This position is federally funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Cooperative Agreement for the budget period not to exceed July 31, 2025.
