The Department of Transportation Services, Transportation Engineering Division is hiring a Traffic Engineer II. Under the general supervision of the head of the Urban Oahu Regional Branch, this position supervises, coordinates, reviews, and/or performs the planning, design and implementation of traffic engineering projects to ensure efficiency, safety, and livability on public streets and related facilities.

 

Examples of duties of a Traffic Engineer II, includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Supervises and/or conducts the investigation and resolution of traffic problems and complaints from the public, other City departments, and other governmental agencies by using a motor vehicle in conducting field assessments and by application of current traffic engineering principles and standards and recommends and oversees the implementation of the best solution.
  • Supervises and/or conducts the planning, design, and implementation of all traffic control devices within the region.
  • Plans, supervises, coordinates, reviews and/or conducts comprehensive studies, using a motor vehicle to conduct field investigations, and analyses of engineering, physical, psychological, and economic data to determine the nature and scope of traffic and transportation problems and solutions.
  • Supervises and/or conducts the review of, or the planning, design, and/or redesign of the construction or reconstruction of conflicting traffic movements, access control, on-street parking, streets and highways from an operation viewpoint of safety, traffic control devices, such as signs, pavement markings, etc.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with major work in civil engineering or a related field:

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

One (1) year of registered professional engineering experience, including or supplemented by one year of experience in traffic engineering activities.
