JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THE PRINCIPAL

The principal is an effective leader who embraces a commitment to strengthen St Anthony School, Wailuku as a premier private educational institution for the long-term benefits of students and the community on the island of Maui. St Anthony School, Wailuku is the school of the St Anthony Parish, which belongs in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu. The principal reports directly to the pastor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

· Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church and able to present sacramental records

· Master’s degree from an accredited university or college

· Be a strategic thinker who is knowledgeable about current trends in Catholic Pre-K through Grade 12 education;

· Have 5 to 10 years of proven leadership and managerial accomplishments in positions of increasing responsibility;

· Have a minimum of five years of supervisory experience;

· Have a minimum of five years of financial management experience;

· Have the capacity to raise significant financial resources and direct major fund raising efforts to promote and advance the school;

· Possess excellent oral and written communications skills with a positive, effective public presence;

· Have demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, decisiveness and a sense of fairness;

· Enhance and support a pluralistic and multi-cultural environment in which all constituents are involved in the betterment of the school;

· Have the personal integrity to inspire respect from all school constituencies.

· Minimum of 5 years of teaching and/or minimum of 3 years of executive level administration in an education setting

· Curricular and academic expertise in implementing standards, curriculum mapping, accreditation, and formative and summative assessments

· Collects and utilizes appropriate data to make decisions

· Financial experience in work on budgets, fund-raising, and/or business

· Demonstrated experience in management or supervision of staff

· Successful leadership and behavioral management

· Effective oral and written English communication that is clear and compelling

· Organizational skills and attention to detail in achieving results for planned objectives

· Capability to function with computers, websites, and other information technology

· Physical abilities that include standing, walking, sitting, watching, and lifting

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Overall, the principal serves as the educational leader and Chief Administrative Officer of the school. The principal exercises solid, strategic leadership that is committed to advance the school, enhance excellence, and expand enrollment. This leader advances the education of children who excel and develop empathetic care for themselves and their community. The principal empowers teachers who inspire and instruct students. This administrator sustains the school with stability and measurable results. The principal discerns and plans ways to improve the school. This leader achieves goals with means that include: increasing financial resources, deepening ties in the churches and community, and strengthening support from alumni, families, friends, and foundations.

Moreover, the principal:

· upholds the Catholic identity of the school ensuring that Catholic Christian values and principles are integrated in all aspects of campus life.

· fosters Catholic education, social justice, and community service;

· administers the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, including plans for academics, arts, athletics, and extra-curricular activities;

· ensures compliance with requirements of accreditation and standards;

· supervises all employees and serves as an instructional leader as needed, including the professional development, recruitment, retention, review, and removal of staff;

· advances students' achievement and teachers' professional development;

· markets the school, raising enrollment, and promoting a visible online presence;

· collaborates effectively with and is accountable to the pastor;

· cooperates with the Augustine Educational Foundation, the school’s Foundation, and other donors or partners;

· implements policies on academics, behavior, discipline, safety, security, and civil and canon laws;

· engages with contributors, especially alumni and Parents-Teachers Guild;

· aligns the school's mission with the community's culture and interests;

· confers with the Parish or the Vicariate as appropriate;

· manages and accounts for all tuition, fund-raising, finances, and budgets;

· maintains and improves buildings, grounds, equipment, and technology;

· acquires additional innovative or professional knowledge and skills as required.
