(6) Temporary, Full-Time, Limited-Term (up to twelve (12) weeks in duration), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL), located at the University of Hawai‘i (UH), Manoa Innovation Center, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
HOURLY RATE: $20/Hr.
DUTIES: Participates in an ARL project for a 12-week internship. Specific tasks will vary depending on the area of study and experience of the student. Participates in personal development workshops and field trips and works closely with the mentor(s) to achieve the objectives of their assigned project(s). Required to work within the secure GCC-High Azure cloud environment and will have to successfully complete the required training at the beginning of the internship. Maintains written documentation of their progress and present their results to the ARL team at the end of their internship. Projects and tasks may be in the following areas:
· Computer Science – Develops artificial intelligence/machine learning algorithms to conduct data analysis, UX/UI analysis, front-end testing, automation research, or reusable React components.
· Cybersecurity/Information Technology – Uses data to detect, analyze, assess vulnerabilities, and mitigate cyber threats.
· Electrical Engineering – Uses various communication pathways to establish interoperability of systems.
· Mechanical Engineering – Designs, fabricates using 3D printing and computer aided design (CAD), and tests systems. Assists with embedded systems programming and prototyping.
· Robotics Engineering – Uses electronics, mechanical components and software to create embedded systems and sensors.
· Media & Design – Creates graphics and assist with layout and design of reports, flyers and presentations. Assists with web design and marketing.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Up to one (0-1) year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
KNOWLEDGE
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Must be a U.S. Citizen, a requirement of the Government security investigation to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Must be available for the duration of the program (June to mid-August). Interested in STEAM-related fields. Strong communication and organizational skills are key to working within this team environment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on a tier-3 background investigation to access classified information. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience or coursework in Computer Science, Cybersecurity/Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or Media & Design. Experience with technical communication and writing. Previous internship experience.
